FAQs

I would love for my child to be taught through Irish, but my own Irish is poor/non-existent; how will we manage homework?

This is a very common concern for parents, but this never causes trouble in reality. We have a number of parents who themselves have no Irish whatsoever, whose children are thriving in a Gaelscoil environment. Your children will be teaching you Irish after a few weeks!

We live some distance away from the Gaelscoil and are not sure how we would manage drop offs/pick ups. What are our options?

There is a school bus that already picks up and drops off children from and to Gaelscoil Naomh Séamas, This gives time-poor parents a great option for their children and is used by a number of families.

Does the school provide after-school services?

We currently have an after-school service run by the Naíonra, which can mind junior and senior infants until the bus leaves at 2:30pm. We have the facilities to offer child-minding services until later in the afternoon and evening; the availability of this service is dependent on demand.

What are the physical facilities like in the school?

The school building itself is a modern, warm and fit-for-purpose structure with plenty of space for our children and facilities for cooking, music and indoor play. We make full use of these facilities to provide a rounded, enjoyable curriculum for our pupils. Outside, we have large playing fields to the front and back of the school, an enclosed area for smaller children from the Naíonra, and a brand new playground that our pupils play on every day.

What is the culture and environment like within the school?

We foster a friendly, open and encouraging environment within Gaelscoil Naomh Séamas, where every child is encouraged to make the most of their talents. We pride ourselves on having clear, regular and open communication with parents, we have a zero-tolerance bullying policy, and every child is encouraged to make the best of their God-given ability.
